Well done to everyone who took part in this year’s national New Year Plant Hunt. On the Island, Dave & Hazel, Keith & Anne, Colin & Jillie, Mark and Vidya braved the elements to count how many wild plants they could find in flower.
Our counts generally were in the 40 to 50 range, well below the national top count of 92 made on the island of Jersey. However, Mark counted 53 flowering plants at Castle Street, Ryde making this just below the top twenty national counts. Unsurprisingly, our lists were very similar with a predominance of lingering flowers rather than early spring arrivals.
