Local Naturalist George Greiff has made the National Shortlist for the Adult Newcomer category in the 2018 National Biodiversity Network Awards for biological recording and information sharing.
George, who has recently embarked on his first year of a Degree at Oxford was nominated for his outstanding contribution to our local knowledge of distribution and abundance of lower plants on the Island (Mosses, Lichens and Liverworts). He has rediscovered several species not recorded for a Century as well as adding a few which are firsts.
He has also been making headway with identifying and naming fungal parasites of lichens – a highly specialised field which is starting to receive attention from experienced lichenologists across the country.
The winners will be given their prizes at a special ceremony on Wednesday 21 November during the NBN’s annual conference in Nottingham.
