Our annual pilgrimage to see the Nightjars at Mottistone took place on a warm, still evening with a full moon. On the ascent from Strawberry Lane, we were treated to a Stonechat and Yellowhammer, both posing on the same gorse bush. We stopped at The Longstone but the long singing Nightingale had moved on. We continued along the path and waited in anticipation for sundown. And we were richly rewarded as the sound of churring and the distinctive “coo-licking” soon filled the air. We spotted several Nightjar throughout the evening, including two pairs flying together. As always, the Nightjar did not disappoint the 14 members who took part in the walk.
